Old Lady Left by Family in Ramshackle House Cries as Volunteers Build Her a New Home

It is sad how there are so many children who grow up to leave their families, letting the old folks fend off for their own. Many of these old folks are poor and can’t even afford to have good meals three times a day; yet their children seemed to have forgotten them now that they have families of their own.

That is what happened to an old woman in Qijia village, set in Chunri Township located in the Pingtung County, Taiwan. For over 45 years, the old woman lived in the same spot despite her children leaving the place to find their own fortune.

Despite the ramshackle house that had seen better days, the old lady did not want to leave just in case her kids would go back to see her someday. Moreover, she did not really have the money to repair her rundown house as she could barely feed herself each day.

One day, someone from a group of kind volunteers learned of her situation. The volunteer group specializes in building houses for poor folks, using their own money and dedicating their own skills. Seeing that the old lady’s house just might topple over at the next earthquake, the group quickly made plans and bought the materials for her home.
