Negative Effects of Too Much Social Media to your Brain
The advent of the internet has changed the world in so many ways. It has made our lives so much easier and convenient. It also paved the way for the popular social media today, which has also helped in connecting people through various platforms.

Here are some of the negative effects of using too much social media.

1. Addiction.

People today are already aware that using the social media as a pastime can be very addicting. While easy and fast communication is one of the things that you can get from this, the habit easily turns to an addiction.

It seems like users have free time from work or school, instead of doing something else that is productive, they immediately turn to their smartphones to check if they have notifications on Facebook or new messages in Twitter.

2. Change in appetite.

In the social media, we can see a lot of great photos and videos of appetizing meals and because of this, it compels your brain to overeat since it triggers hunger.

What happens is that when you feel hungry all the time, you have a higher chance of being obese or overweight which is not healthy at all.

3. Lower self-esteem.

Many of those who are addicted to social media felt worse about themselves in one way or another. That is because we tend to compare ourselves to others.

When people compare themselves to their friends who are better than them in different ways, they feel self-pity, they feel jealous or envious, and they also feel inadequate.

4. Fake friendships.

Let’s admit it. Even if you have a thousand friends on Facebook does not mean that you really share an intimate friend with them.

Most of them are casual friends you met a few times, and only a few of them are your real friends. More friends on the social media do not mean you are more social. And the people who will usually like or share your posts are not the ones who are really concerned about you.

Social networking is not bad at all. However, it is all a matter of knowing how to use it wisely and use it to your advantage, not to your disadvantage.
